Meet Dr. James V. Dewhurst

Dr. Jim Dewhurst was raised in an Air Force family. Although his father's career moved the family frequently, most of his youth was spent in southern California. Jim graduated from high school in Victorville, California and attended undergraduate school at the University of California in Chico. There he received two Bachelor's degrees, one in Chemistry and the second in Biology. Upon graduation from college, Jim enlisted in the Navy as a dental technician for 5 years. When his service time was complete, he embarked upon fulfilling a life long dream of becoming a dentist.

Jim spent his first two years of Dental school in Tulsa where he met and married his lovely wife, Theresa. As circumstances would have it, Jim and Theresa moved to Southern California where he completed his Degree in Dental Surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center, College of Dentistry in Loma Linda, California. After Graduation, Dr. Dewhurst and Theresa moved to Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he received a commission as a Lieutenant in the Public Health Service as Chief Dental Officer.

After two years in Tahlequah in a hospital based dental residency program, Jim and Theresa, now with two little daughters, moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1989. Soon after moving to Guthrie, Dr. Dewhurst still in the service met Dr. Kelly Brown at a Dental Education Seminar in Guthrie. An immediate and enduring friendship began between the two doctors and their wives. While living in Guthrie, Jim was stationed in Watonga, Oklahoma, where he completed a career in the service and retired as a decorated Commander.

While maintaining a friendship and a professional association with Dr. Brown, the two doctors found that they shared similar philosophies on patient care and dental practice management.

Upon Dr. Dewhurst's retirement from the service, Dr. Brown approached Jim about developing a sister clinic of Comfort Dental in Perry, Oklahoma.

Comfort Dental of Perry was opened in July of 2002. What a professional and personally fulfilling endeavor this has been for Dr. Dewhurst. He has had the opportunity to serve the wonderful people of Perry and the surrounding communities. His awesome staff is a delight and together they continue to share a commitment to quality care, concern and dental health excellence to the entire area.

When Dr. Dewhurst is out of the office, he is an avid and talented guitarist with quite a collection of stringed instruments. But mostly Jim enjoys being a dad to daughters, Chloe' and Lacey, and experiencing life's adventures with Theresa, his lovely wife of over 20 years.
